Just a thought: A phone controls you now.

Our society has changed so much now. A simple device (phone) has taken control of you & you have no control over it. Even husband & wife are sitting in each corner of the bed & checking Watsapp every min. Hoping, something will come up & may change his/her life.

In a week, We have 168 hrs but you or me do not have 5 mins to talk to parents, brother, friends or old colleagues. Even if you try they do not have time to speak to you. A kid wants to play with father but father is busy in facebook. Strange time and we all are sick in many ways.

If you ask anybody they say no time yaar then blame kids, work, unhealthy parents or partner. But, never check his/her total screen time in a week. As per research, On average a person can maintain maximum 200 contacts but now you can’t even maintain 10 people contacts because of phone.

My humble request to all readers is that Talk to the people who is next to you. Say hello to others in metro or workplace rather than chatting someone online on Facebook.

The black market for Amazon reviews makes some sense if you consider how valuable positive reviews can be to sellers on the platform. With more than 2.5 million sellers on the platform, getting seen by customers who might make a purchase is no easy feat. As one friend who has been selling on Amazon Marketplace since 2016 explained to me, on Amazon, “the more reviews you have on an item, the more likely for the item to come up in an algorithmic search. The more customers like the item, with reviews, the more Amazon likes it.”

The social media conversation over the climate crisis is being reshaped by an army of automated Twitter bots, with a new analysis finding that a quarter of all tweets about climate on an average day are produced by bots, the Guardian can reveal.

The stunning levels of Twitter bot activity on topics related to global heating and the climate crisis is distorting the online discourse to include far more climate science denialism than it would otherwise.

An analysis of millions of tweets from around the period when Donald Trump announced the US would withdraw from the Paris climate agreement found that bots tended to applaud the president for his actions and spread misinformation about the science.

The study of Twitter bots and climate was undertaken by Brown University and has yet to be published. Bots are a type of software that can be directed to autonomously tweet, retweet, like or direct message on Twitter, under the guise of a human-fronted account.

“These findings suggest a substantial impact of mechanized bots in amplifying denialist messages about climate change, including support for Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris agreement,” states the draft study, seen by the Guardian.

A few years ago, I performed an experiment in a philosophy class I was teaching. I extemporized a solution: I offered them extra credit if they would give me their phones for nine days and write about living without them. Twelve students—about a third of the class—took me up on the offer. What they wrote was remarkable, and remarkably consistent. These university students, given the chance to say what they felt, didn’t gracefully submit to the tech industry and its devices.

The usual industry and education narrative about cell phones, social media, and digital technology generally is that they build community, foster communication, and increase efficiency, thus improving our lives. Mark Zuckerberg’s recent reformulation of Facebook’s mission statement is typical: the company aims to “give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

Without their phones, most of my students initially felt lost, disoriented, frustrated, and even frightened. That seemed to support the industry narrative: look how disconnected and lonely you’ll be without our technology. But after just two weeks, the majority began to think that their cell phones were in fact limiting their relationships with other people, compromising their own lives, and somehow cutting them off from the “real” world. Nowadays it is not surprising for anyone if he/she gets a call from unknown sources. for instance salesperson, marketing and insurance agents. We assume that they have got from the telecom service. To sum up in sentence: We all being watched and it is not GOD.

We have no idea how much information every service provider has about us. Take an example of an insurance agent. Any agent might know your credit score, monthly expenditure and your monthly income. Don’t ask why do they collect? This is called the surveillance economy.

Since our sensitive private information has become a public profile and available to every companies & agencies. Hackers do have the same profile. The only difference is that facebook, amazon, google collects data with white-collar (legally) ways and Hackers collect individual information in different their own way.

  • Buy your personal information from the dark web (Black market). Hackers sell/buy hacked data on the dark web.
  • Gather information from multiple social media platforms. Your house, location & your pet name etc. This is all available.
  • Impersonate you and get sensitive information from telecoms services , banks or some stores where you have done some shopping recently.

Following things you could do in such cases:

  • Check the authenticity of the person who has contacted you via call, SMS or email. For instance, speak to customer care and enquiry about the matter.
  • If a person insists to do something related to money, Delay the process. Ask them that you are willing to visit the office and pay.
  • Ask them to provide proof that you have violated law.
